As part of Light Up Poole’s Film Poetry Competition, ArtfulScribe is hosting a film poem weekend workshop course at Poole Museum. Learn the ins and outs of film poetry on this two-day course, led by Helen Dewberry and Chaucer Cameron, and create a filmpoem to enter into the competition for a chance to win the £500 First Prize or to make the shortlist and have your film screened at Lighthouse Poole.
Film Poetry Weekend Workshop Course
Date: 13th-14th January 2018
Venue: Poole Museum, 5th Floor, 4 High Street, Poole, BH15 1BW
Price: £17.50 for the weekend with concessions available.

Day 1 (10am-4pm)
Day one will be an introduction to film poetry, from theory to practice. By the end of the day participants will:
have a clear understanding of the film poem as an art form
understand the history and development of film poems and associated genres
learn how to consider ways of presenting a poem through text, filming, sound and editing procedures
draft a film poem idea using archive footage
Day 2 (12pm-4pm)
Participants will be supported to plan and deliver their personal film poem proposals with a view to creating submissions for the film poetry competition.
Participants can bring their own camera or phone, and laptop or iPad.
We demonstrate using iMovie. If a windows device is used, participants should ensure that either Movie Maker is downloaded, or, they are familiar with the program that they have.
We have 4 iPads available for use by participants.

Helen Dewbery – Helen is an Associate member of the Royal Photographic Society and approaches poetry film as a contemporary photographic artist, combining still and moving images. Helen has worked collaboratively with a number of poets and has been screened regularly in poetry festivals. She has also exhibited in solo and group photographic exhibitions. Helen is also an editor of two poetry anthologies and currently lives in North Somerset.
Chaucer Cameron – Chaucer is a poet and film-maker whose work has featured variously online and in print, with films screened at Cheltenham Poetry Festival, International Video Poetry Festival, and Bath Fringe Festival.
