Victorian Speed Of Life explores why the pressures and health concerns of 21st century life originate with Victorian inventions such as the telegraph, and industrialisation, revealing what our 19th century ancestors faced as they grappled with the same issues around stress and modern living that we experience today.
This fascinating projection and sound installation are created by international artists Ross Ashton and Karen Monid, in collaboration with Prof. Sally Shuttleworth and TORCH (The Oxford Research Centre for the Humanities) for the ‘Diseases of Modern Life’ research project. The installation has won The University of Oxford Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Public Engagement with Research Award and The Oxford Preservation Trust’s award for ‘Best Temporary Project’.
